Lucknow: In a heartwarming reunion, the Lucknow Police helped a 55-year-old woman reunite with her son after nearly nine years of separation. The emotional meeting was facilitated through a video call, after which the son travelled from Surat to Lucknow to take his mother home.
The woman, identified as Ratan Ben, had been sitting near Balu Adda Chauraha in Lucknow for two days. She reportedly remained at the same spot, often sitting in the sun. On the third day, personnel from the Hazratganj police station approached her and tried to find out where she belonged. However, she was unable to provide clear information.

Police brought her to the station, where a woman officer helped her bathe, provided her with fresh clothes and arranged food. After she was made comfortable, officers spoke to her patiently. During the conversation, she softly mentioned Kattargam in Surat, Gujarat.
The police team used the information to search for the area online and contacted the concerned police station in Surat. With assistance from the local police, a beat officer’s contact number was obtained.
The Surat police officer then connected with Ratan Ben through a video call. Based on the missing-person records, her son Vishal was brought before the camera. The moment Vishal saw his mother after years of searching, he was overwhelmed with happiness and emotion.
After the police helped confirm her identity, Vishal immediately began his journey to Lucknow. He eventually reached the city and embraced his mother, bringing an end to the family’s long wait.
Mother Had Gone Missing in 2017
Vishal told Dainik Jagran that his mother’s mental health had not been stable since 2010. She had left home on two or three earlier occasions but returned late at night.

He got married in 2015, and his daughter was born in 2016. In 2017, his mother suddenly left home and did not return.
The family searched for her at railway stations, bus stands and other locations. A missing-person report was also filed, but the search did not yield results for several years.
Son Thanks Lucknow Police
After reaching Lucknow, Vishal expressed gratitude to the police personnel who helped trace his mother and establish contact with the family.
Later in the evening, he left for Gujarat with Ratan Ben. The reunion brought relief and happiness to a family that had spent nearly nine years waiting for her return.
The case highlights the role of patient communication, coordinated police efforts and humane assistance in helping vulnerable people reconnect with their families
